Newt Gingrich Misrepresents Stem Cell Science, Mocks Evolution

Over at Think Progress, I’ve contributed a piece reacting to this extraordinary Newt Gingrich clip:

As you’ll note, in the clip Gingrich gets stem cell science wrong, accuses it of “killing children” (!), and then utters some really lame things about evolution at the end.

Including this quote, which is really a jaw dropper:

I always tell my friends who don’t believe in this stuff, fine, how do you think — we’re randomly gathered protoplasm? We could have been rhinoceroses, but we got lucky this week?

And you know what? Gingrich is a smart guy. I suspect he actually knows better.
